Jenna Ellen Hair

Where our clients come from

The Silverdale salon for the whole Hibiscus Coast

Jenna Ellen Hair sits 2 minutes off the motorway at the Silverdale exit, which puts it about 5 minutes from Orewa and Millwater, 10 from Red Beach, 20 from Whangaparaoa and 15 from Albany and the East Coast Bays, with free parking at the door. Below is how to get here from each part of the Coast and Rodney, and what the salon does differently for people who've just moved in.

Getting here from across the Coast

Drive times are off-peak estimates. Friday afternoons along Whangaparaoa Road and the motorway interchange run slower, which is one reason the salon opens late on Tuesday and Thursday.

  • Orewa and Hatfields Beach

    About 5 to 8 minutes

Straight down Hibiscus Coast Highway, or Grand Drive to the motorway interchange and off at Silverdale.

Orewa clients book the late nights so the drive is after the beach traffic.

  • Millwater and Milldale

    About 3 to 5 minutes

Through Millwater Parkway or Wainui Road to Hibiscus Coast Highway, then Silverdale Street.

Many of the salon's newest clients moved here in the last 3 years and used the free consultation to find a stylist.

  • Red Beach and Stanmore Bay

    About 7 to 12 minutes

Whangaparaoa Road west to the Silverdale interchange.

A Saturday cut or blow wave fits neatly before the beach.

  • Whangaparaoa, Manly and Gulf Harbour

    About 15 to 25 minutes

Whangaparaoa Road the whole way west. Allow longer on a Friday afternoon.

Longer colour appointments are why the free parking extends to 5 hours at the front desk.

  • Dairy Flat, Wainui and Stillwater

    About 8 to 12 minutes

Dairy Flat Highway or Wainui Road into Silverdale; from Stillwater, East Coast Road to the Silverdale interchange.

Many homes here are on tank or bore water, and a Malibu C treatment before your toner keeps blonde clean.

  • Albany, Browns Bay and the East Coast Bays

    About 15 to 20 minutes

Northern Motorway to the Silverdale exit, then 2 minutes to Alberto Lane. From the bays, East Coast Road north is the scenic route.

Early mornings by request for anyone heading on to work in the city, and Monday appointments for a quieter salon.

  • Warkworth and Matakana

    About 25 minutes

State Highway 1 south to the Silverdale exit.

Combine a colour visit with the Silverdale shops and a coffee next door.

What we do differently for people who've just moved here

Millwater, Milldale and Orewa have grown faster than almost anywhere in Auckland, and a large share of the salon's newer clients arrived with a colourist they trusted still back in the city, or in another country. The free consultation exists for exactly that: 15 minutes with a stylist to talk through your hair history, see the salon and agree a plan before you commit to a colour. Bring photos of the blonde you had and the blonde you want, and the balayage or foils plan is built around them.

2 Coast-specific things come up in that conversation. The first is water: many homes in Dairy Flat, Wainui and the rural edge of Silverdale run on tank or bore water, and the minerals in it dull blonde and push toner warm, which a $40 Malibu C treatment before your toner fixes at the basin. The second is the beach: summer swimming and the UV on the Coast fade colour faster, so the blonde care guide is written for exactly this climate.

Questions from across the Coast

Where exactly is the salon?

Unit 6, 1 Alberto Lane, Silverdale, in the block of shops next to Joe's Garage. It's 2 minutes off the Northern Motorway at the Silverdale exit.

Is there parking?

Yes, 90 minutes free out the front. For a longer colour appointment, enter your plate at the iPad on the front desk and it extends to 5 hours.

I've just moved to the Coast. How do I find the right stylist?

Book the free 15-minute consultation with any stylist. You'll see the salon, talk through your hair and your budget, and only book once you're sure. If you'd rather be matched, tell the front desk what you're after and they'll suggest who to see.

Do you open late for people commuting to the city?

Yes. Tuesday and Thursday run until 8pm, Saturday is open until 4pm, the salon is open 6 days, and early mornings are available by request.

How do I choose the best hairdresser on the Hibiscus Coast?

3 things tell you more than any ranking: reviews that describe the colour lasting (the salon is rated 4.8 from 65 Google reviews), a specialisation that matches what you want (lived-in blonde and balayage here), and a free consultation where a stylist looks at your hair before anything is booked. Bring photos to that consultation and judge the plan you're given.

Do you do mobile or at-home appointments?

All services are in the salon on Alberto Lane, where the basins, lighting and products are.
