Every treatment can be added to a colour or cut appointment.

Sleek, glossy straight bronde hair after a smoothing finish at Jenna Ellen Hair, Silverdale

Smoothing: Cezanne and SmoothFiller

Cezanne is a formaldehyde-free keratin smoothing treatment. It smooths the cuticle, softens wave and takes the frizz out of humid Coast mornings, and it cuts blow-dry time noticeably. The result lasts up to 3 months and washes out gradually, so there's no line and nothing to grow out.

SmoothFiller is the salon's second smoothing option, chosen at consultation for hair that needs frizz control with a lighter touch. Both are priced at consultation, because the amount of product and time depends on how long and how dense your hair is.

Nanoplasty: straighter, for longer

Nanoplasty is a formaldehyde-free straightening treatment that works deeper in the hair than a keratin smoothing, so the result is straighter and lasts longer, washing out gradually rather than growing out with a line. It's the treatment for wavy or curly hair that wants a sleek, glossy finish that survives a Coast summer, and it's kinder to the hair than the older straightening chemistry.

The consultation decides between Cezanne, SmoothFiller and nanoplasty: how much straightening you want, how your hair is coloured, and how long you'd like the result to hold. All 3 are priced at consultation, and nanoplasty is the longest appointment of the 3.

Who smoothing suits

Smoothing suits wavy or frizz-prone hair that you'd like to wear smoother with less effort, blondes whose lightened lengths puff up in humidity, and anyone who wants the blow-dry to last more than a day. It softens wave rather than flattening it, so your hair still moves.

If you colour your hair, the consultation plans the order so the colour and the smoothing both hold. Most clients do the colour first and the smoothing in the same visit or the following week.

Kérastase Fusio-Dose

Fusio-Dose is the in-salon Kérastase treatment mixed for your hair on the day: a concentrate for what your hair needs most (moisture, strength, shine or scalp comfort) and a booster for its second need. It takes 5 minutes at the basin, the result is immediate, and from $50, it's the easiest upgrade to any colour or cut.

Premiere, for hair that's been through the wringer

Kérastase Premiere is the deeper repair for hair weakened by colour, heat and water minerals. It works in 2 steps, lifting the calcium that builds up in damaged hair and then rebuilding the fibre, so the hair feels stronger and takes colour and toner more evenly. It's from $70 and it's the treatment we recommend between the stages of a dark-to-blonde plan.

Malibu C

Malibu C is a crystal gel treatment that removes mineral and chlorine build-up from the hair. On the Coast that's relevant for anyone on tank or bore water, anyone who swims through summer, and every blonde whose toner keeps drifting warm. It's from $40 and it goes on at the basin before your toner so the toner takes evenly.

Aftercare that makes treatments last

Sulphate-free shampoo, a heat protectant before any hot tool and a weekly mask keep a smoothing treatment at its best for the full 3 months. The retail wall carries the Kérastase, Redken, Davines and O&M ranges your stylist used on the day, so the routine at home matches the one in the salon.

Prices

Every foiling and balayage service is paired with a finishing package, which covers your toner, root shadow and a styled finish. Prices are based on a 4 to 10 week regrowth; longer gaps may need extra product.

Questions people ask about treatments and smoothing

How long does a keratin smoothing treatment last?

Up to 3 months at Jenna Ellen Hair, washing out gradually with no line. Sulphate-free shampoo and less heat stretch it towards the full 3 months.

Does smoothing straighten my hair?

Cezanne and SmoothFiller soften wave and take out frizz rather than flattening the hair, so it still moves and can still be curled. For a properly straight finish, nanoplasty is the treatment: straighter, longer-lasting, and still formaldehyde-free.

What's the difference between keratin smoothing and nanoplasty?

Keratin smoothing (Cezanne, SmoothFiller) coats and seals the hair for a smoother, less frizzy version of your own texture, for up to 3 months. Nanoplasty works deeper to straighten the hair and holds for longer. Both are formaldehyde-free, both wash out gradually with no line, and the consultation decides which suits your hair and the finish you want.

Are keratin treatments good for hair?

Cezanne is formaldehyde-free and conditions the hair while it smooths, so it's suitable for coloured and lightened hair. The consultation confirms it's right for your hair before it's booked.

Can I colour and smooth on the same day?

Usually yes: colour first, then the smoothing treatment. Your stylist plans the order at consultation so both results hold.

How much does a keratin treatment cost in NZ?

Salon smoothing in Auckland is priced by length and density, and at Jenna Ellen Hair it's quoted at a free consultation so the number is exact for your hair rather than an estimate.
