Kérastase Fusio-Dose: the 5-minute in-salon treatment explained

Fusio-Dose is Kérastase's in-salon treatment mixed fresh for your hair on the day: a concentrate for your hair's main need (moisture, strength, shine or scalp comfort) and a booster for its second. It takes 5 minutes at the basin, the result is immediate, and at Jenna Ellen Hair it's a $50 add-on to any colour or cut.

How it's built

Fusio-Dose is a 2-part treatment. The concentrate is the base and targets your hair's biggest need on the day: moisture for dry hair, strength for lightened or fragile hair, shine and smoothness for dull or frizzy hair, or scalp comfort. The booster is a smaller dose that targets the second need. Your stylist chooses both after looking at your hair, mixes them fresh in a vial, and applies the mixture at the basin for 5 minutes. It works while you sit, and the difference shows in the blow-dry that follows.

Because it's mixed for you rather than pulled off a shelf, the same treatment on 2 clients is 2 different formulas. That's the whole idea, and it's why Kérastase keeps it in the salon rather than in a bottle.

Which combination for which hair

  • Lightened blonde. A strength concentrate, so the hair holds its elasticity after foils, with a moisture or shine booster. It goes on before the toner and helps the toner take evenly.
  • Frizz-prone or wavy hair. A smoothing concentrate with a moisture booster, for a blow-dry that behaves in humidity.
  • Fine hair. A lightweight strength or moisture concentrate with a shine booster, so the hair gets body without weight.
  • Dry or heat-styled hair. A moisture concentrate with a strength booster.
  • A tight or flaky scalp. A scalp-comfort concentrate, with whatever the lengths need as the booster.

Your stylist decides on the day, which is why it's an add-on rather than something you choose from the menu.

When to add it

To any colour appointment, where it goes on between the lightener and the toner. To a cut and blow-dry, where it's the difference between a good blow-dry and one that lasts. Before a big night out, for shine that photographs. And any time the hair feels tired: it's the treatment for "my hair just needs something".

Fusio-Dose versus a take-home mask

A mask at home is a weekly routine that maintains the hair between visits. Fusio-Dose is more concentrated, mixed for the day, and applied by someone who can see what your hair needs. The 2 work together: the treatment in the chair, the matching Kérastase mask from the retail wall at home. The blonde care routine sets out the home side.

Fusio-Dose, Premiere and Malibu C

Fusio-Dose ($50) is the everyday upgrade. Premiere ($70) is the deeper, 2-step repair for hair that's been through the wringer: it lifts the calcium that builds up in damaged hair and then rebuilds the fibre, and it's the treatment between the stages of a dark-to-blonde plan. Malibu C ($40) is a crystal gel that removes mineral and chlorine build-up, for tank and bore water and for swimmers, and it goes on before a toner so the toner takes evenly. The bond repair guide explains where Premiere fits among bond builders.

Booking

Add it when you book online or ask at the basin; it's 5 minutes and $50, and it's on the treatments and smoothing page with everything else. The keratin and smoothing guide covers the longer-lasting options.
